The Benefits of Chair Massage in Pregnancy.

Many people believe that massage is better on a table and in a clinic; while that type of
massage is most widely recognised and definitely good for a full body massage, it’s not your
only choice.  Seated or Workplace Massage has been around for quite some time and is very
popular in many workplaces and companies.

It’s short, focussed, quite relaxing and ideal for pregnant women, depending on the
type of massage chair you are sitting on. Quite a number of women in their second and third trimester are actually able to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of massage.

If the chair is ergonomically designed and has the right amount of space between the
chest pad and seat, it will allow a woman to receive a relaxing massage on the neck and
shoulders, as well as the lower back, top of the gluteus muscles and even the quadriceps.

The same comment has been made over and over; “I feel safe, supported and finally able to relax through a massage.”

It’s also easier to get on and off the chair and the treatment is specific to key areas of the upper
body.

There are those who swear by the table massage and it definitely has merits especially when
working on tired legs or on minimising the effects of (muscle related) sciatica.
Pregnant women need to get as much massage as possible after the first trimester and
chair massage offers a greater level of comfort and support for the recipient.

With a chair massage, you can choose to receive shorter treatments by arranging to have a
group meet once a week or fortnight. A minimum of 20 minutes each is recommended to ‘take
the edge off’.  It’s enough to start with and you can always increase it as time passes.

Chair massage can be part of a group’s activity and by having a few of you to share the
experience it’s also more cost effective and can be a social occasion.  Apart from being a good day, it’s also good for you!
